The studio is delaying the start of 2012 by several months, due to…well we’re not quite sure what. We know that Sony already has a very big summer coming up with Angels & Demons, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, and the international release of The Terminator. This summer we’re also expecting Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which would have opened a week after 2012, absolutely creaming it at the box office.

They’re moving 2012 from a July 12th release to a November 13th release. The studio has stated that the film will be ready for it’s earlier release date, and that this isn’t a “troubled production” sort of thing. It’s merely a scheduling conflict which forces them to jump back four months. I think it’s that the final cut of 2012 isn’t living up to big summer blockbuster standards so they’re moving it to a “safer” date. Although I’m not even sure if that’s possible as now it will be competing with Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and New Moon.

So what do you think really happened?
