Over at LatinoReview, they got a chance to talk to Terminator: Salvation director McG about his next project 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo. As we reported earlier, Disney is planning to remake their first live action film, that was originally released in 1954. The director spoke about what his interpretation of the classic Jules Verne novel, as well as, his pick for the films leading man.
“The character Nemo in this film is more about obsession, he is obsessed and people tend to forget that when you become so obsessed you end up being the villain.”
“’Man I’m trying to get Will Smith to do it, been trying to get a hold of him. I’ve been wanting to work with him for a long time already. That guy’s great”
Wow, I did not see that one coming. McG doesn’t clarify if he’s looking for Smith to play Nemo, or the good guy Ned Land. Either way, he wants him in! I don’t know if I could personally see Smith as Nemo, I always see that character as James Mason, or just an older gentleman in general. I think Ned Land would be a better fit, but even then I’m having issues with seeing him in the red and white striped shirt, playing a banjo.
What do you think of Smith as a candidate for the new 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea?
