Golden Globe nominee Colin Farrell, is in talks to star in the Peter Weir directed drama This Way Back. According to Variety, the Irish actor is in the final stages of negotiations to star in the film alongside Ed Harris, Jim Sturgess, and Saoirse Ronan.  The film is a “fact-based story of a group of soldiers who engineered a grueling escape from a Siberian gulag in 1942.”

Weir wrote the script, based on the memoir by Slavomir Rawicz. Farrell plays a tough, tattooed Russian; Harris an American; and Sturgess portrays a young Polish inmate. Ronan will play a Russian on the run who meets up with the fugitives.

The Way Back begins production in March, and  will shoot in Bulgaria. Director Weir, is also serving as the film’s co-producer along with Joni Levin and Duncan Henderson.

Co-star Jim Sturgess is best known for his roles in 21 and Across the Universe,  while 14 year old Saoirse Ronan, gained an Academy Award nomination for her role  in 2007’s Atonement.
