Angels and Demons Trailer and Behind the Scenes Special

Thursday, October 30, 2008 1:06PM - By Mali Elfman

angelsdemons08 10 30 Angels and Demons Trailer and Behind the Scenes SpecialThey really did it! They made the sequel to The Da Vinci Code. I’ve known it was happening, but I didn’t believe it until now. I needed proof in the form of a trailer I guess.

The film is directed by Ron Howard and stars Tom Hanks (of course) along side Ayelet Zurer and Ewan McGregor. The film is again, based off the bestselling novel by Dan Brown. The story goes that Langdon discovers evidence of the resurgence of an ancient secret brotherhood known as the Illuminati – the most powerful underground organization in history – he also faces a deadly threat to the existence of the secret organization’s most despised enemy: the Catholic Church.

The trailer is, well, somewhat limited, seeing as it’s only a teaser. Looks much more Hollywood than the last.

Check out the trailer below. Definitely a lot of BIG music by Hanz…

Ten (Not) Very Scary Films In Honor Of Halloween

Thursday, October 30, 2008 12:15PM - By Liana Aghajanian

Call it a manufactured holiday or an ancient tradition with its roots dating back to a Celtic Festival known as Samhain, Halloween has been celebrated all over the world for at least two centuries. Along with the costumes, caramel apples and the ever obligatory jack-o-lantern, movies have also become a staple during All Hallow’s Eve. However, they don’t always have to be scary. I’m giving Freddy, Jason and Leatherface the night off and exchanging them for some Munsters, Charlie Brown and three resurrected, goofy witches.

Samuel L. Jackson is a great, bad-guy. From Pulp Fiction, to The Spirit, he makes evil fun. He is set to star as a bad guy again in Columbia Pictures’ remake of Berry Gordy’s 1985 cult classic The Last Dragon. The role was originally played by Julius Carr. With lines like, “Am I the baddest mofo lowdown around this town?” this role is perfect for Jackson. [THR]

Courtney Cox and “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence have joined forces to create a new half-hour comedy for ABC called “Cougar Town.” Cox will be starring as a newly single 40-year-old mom and exec producing the new sitcom. [Variety]

tdtessworld08 10 30 The Day the Earth Stood Still Trailer and Photos

Woo. This is pretty cool. Yahoo! Movies has just released a new 5-min. extended international trailer for the sci-fi classic remake The Day The Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, and Kathy Bates. I have to say, I wasn’t too excited about this film. The 1951 film was a classic, and I think classic should be left alone. But this trailer looks pretty f-ing cool.

Check it out the trailer and still from the film below the jump. What do you think? Continue Reading

The Death of Torture Horror?

Thursday, October 30, 2008 9:00AM - By Julio Gagne

torture sequence08 10 28 The Death of Torture Horror?

You know the drill (pun intended).  Equal parts rusty metal shop tools, sadistic use of those, grimy dark light locations and a budget under $10 million. Much has been made in the last year of the demise of this sub-genre, blaming everything from GITCMO to fan boredom. Saw V, the latest entry (reviewed here) opened this past weekend and may have something to say about an early diagnosis of death.  With a greater than $30 MM opening weekend the patient seems very much alive.

Before deciding, though, let’s do an analysis.  Take a look at the chart below:

Guillermo discusses the possibility of The Hobbit in 3-D! “Right now what we have is, you don’t have two filmmakers and two screenplay writer — you have four screenplay writers,” he says. “We’ll be talking about 3-D, on IMAX — but [not] right now.” [Cinematical]

Downey Jr. just loves hoping into that Iron Man suit. Due to his four picture deal with Marvel Studios, Robert Downey Jr. will not only be playing Tony Stark in Iron Man 2, but will also appear in The Avengers motion picture as the character. [Spill]

The Haunting in Connecticut Trailer

Wednesday, October 29, 2008 5:31PM - By Mali Elfman

hauntedmovioe08 10 29 The Haunting in Connecticut Trailer

Well the trailer made it in time for Halloween, but not the movie. The film stars Amanda Crew, Virginia Madsen, Kyle Gallner, Elias Koteas and Martin Donovan. The movie is “based” on a true story (I love that line, it’s used to make you think that all the special effects they’ve conjured up could actually happen and therefore terrify you even more- genuinely I fall for it every time). The story is about a family that is forced to relocate near a clinic where their teenage son was being treated for cancer. The family begins experiencing violent, supernatural events that the parents first blame on stress from the illness, but they later discover that their new home is a former mortuary with a dark past. Creeped out yet?

Check out the trailer below…
