I’m convinced that the execs over at Summit Entertainment have martyred something or someone  to Satan, because their cash cow Twilight is sucking the cinematic world dry.  According to Empire, there was a  remake (no surprise there) of 1987′s Near Dark in the works, that is until now. Near Dark was a vampire flick that starred Bill Paxton, Lance Henrikson, and Heroes alum, Adrian Pasdar.

When Empire spoke to the films producer Brad Fuller, this is what he had to say about the Twilight, Near Dark connection.

“Near Dark is probably not going to happen,” he confirmed, talking exclusively to Empire. “I think that Twilight was the same type of thing we were going for although Near Dark was a much darker, sexier, rated R version of that. But I’m concerned that, conceptually, that Near Dark and Twilight are too similar in terms of a vampire movie. For now, that movie is on hold.”

Well, there ya go. Twilight just leaves everything in its dust, films, co-stars, directors. But I will give credit to where credit is due. They put a stop to another remake, which is what needs to be done universally. One down, 13,896 more to go!
