Let the Star Trek marketing hype begin! We’ve all sat on the edge of seats while watching the official trailer for J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. Now, there’s another promotional item that can prepare us for next years big movie debut. IDW Publishing will be releasing a four issue Star Trek comic book, that will serve as a prequel to the film. According to LatinoReview this will be a joint venture between Paramount Studios, and J.J. Abram’s production company Bad Robot Productions.
More on the Star Trek comic when you continue reading.
The first comic in the series, Star Trek: Countdown #1, will be released in January 2009 to the comic book direct market. The story is presented by Abrams and plotted by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. It is written by Mike Johnson (Superman/Batman) and Tim Jones, and features stunning art by David Messina (Star Trek: Mirror Images). Messina also provides covers for the series.
“Star Trek: Countdown lays the groundwork for what happens in the movie,” said Roberto Orci. “It’s our way of passing the baton from the Next Generation characters and their movies to the new film.”
Nice concept, but would you be willing to buy a copy of the Star Trek comic just to prepare for the film? Perhaps, you would simply prefer watching some old episodes of the 1960′s series on cable instead?
