Well. It’s ANOTHER vampire movie. Are these things contagious or something? Did everyone in Hollywood just wake up one morning and go, “I think I’ll make a movie about a vampire!” Yes, yes, I know that Rise of the Lycans is a prequel to the Underworld series, but someone should have told someone, that you can only have so many vampires before people stop buying tickets. They all have an edge, one is based off of a best selling novel (Twilight), another is being called one of best horror films in years (Let the Right One In), HBO decided to run with a vampire series (“True Blood”), and now we get a prequel. And let’s face it, prequels aren’t REALLY necessary.
The first film in the series did well. Worldwide it made $95,708,457, the second film a bit more at $111,340,801, and I guess they’re hoping for a little bit more for the third. But based of this trailer, the overwhelming competition, and lack of buzz, I’d be a little concerned if I were them. Oh well, they’ve got until January to really start pushing it!
Synopsis: The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.
In theater January 23rd. Did you like the trailer?
