Here at Cityzine we cover just about everything, but I felt we have been lacking in our DVD coverage. So I thought I’d give us a little breakdown of this past week’s new DVD editions as well as next week’s, because it’ll be there will be whole after Christmas hoopla and who has time to check themselves.
New DVD’s are usually released each week on Tuesday, and that’s typically the best day to pick them up because they’ll be on sale and also, nobody will be in the store (except during Christmas). So, on the 18th a whole slue of movies were put out lets have a look shall we.

When the majority of people go to the movie theatre, they go to see an actor or perhaps an exciting theme. Will Smith in I Am Legend was a big attraction this weekend. Everybody just had to see Transformers last summer. I went myself, despite my usual tendency to avoid a movie with so much hype. I should have trusted my instincts. What attracts me to the theatre is the film maker and their track record. If I like what they’ve done, I’ll more likely not be disappointed. This Christmas opens one of those films where I need hear just one name and I’m there, Paul Thomas Anderson.
This Christmas, There Will Be Blood. I know for a fact this film will be amazing simply by the filmmaker and his past. P.T. Anderson is one of the greatest American filmmakers of his generation. His films display a knowledge of both history and film aesthetics, as well as Martin Scorsese or Robert Altman. His camera constantly moves as swift as the edits, and he’s known for long takes with big ensemble casts like those other iconic directors.

Alright my little snuggle-muffs. I believe that is Spanish for “geeks”. Or is it “nerds”? Not too much going on lately, but enough eye candy to lick some sweetness off of. Some cool posters and a neat Will Smith superhero teaser. Check it out my minions… p.s. make sure you watch the trailer for the last bullet. It will make your Easter…
Cool trailer for Will Smith’s Hancock superhero movie is on now. View it here. [Which Sony seem to have removed from all parts of the interweb, if someone finds a link let us know and we will update the story - Ed]
Three awesome Dark Knight Posters here, here, and here.
Speaking of posters… the LSD inspired Speed Racer poster is up here.
Want to know all the plot details for Terminator 4? Read this.
Boo hoo. No Peter Jackson directing silly Hobbits in the next two flicks. As Louis mentioned, he will be very involved and producing… but who is to direct? It is rumored that Sam Raimi and Guillermo del Toro are in talks.
Neill Clumpston over at Aint It Cool News has seen Cloverfield’s monster eating some heads. Click here to read what he has to say. Be warned about spoilers. I stop at “eating heads”.
OH CRAP! I Forgot. I hope you stuck around to the end of this. The MOST AMAZING trailer ever made. This movie WILL KICK YOUR ASS! WATCH IT NOW!

Charlie Wilson’s War - With Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Texas Congressman (Tom Hanks) likes two things booz and broads. He almost lost his career over two girls in a hot tub. Yet he made it through and oversaw the most powerful and successful CIA operations in all history. This move has a stunning cast and has already been nominated for everything. Hope it’s as good as it looks.
National Treasure: Book of Secrets – With Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, Helen Mirren, Ed Harris, Alicia Coppola, Bruce Greenwood. At least they got the cast right, I don’t know about what else. They’re still looking for treasure. This has never been one of my favorite series and I doubt this one will surprise me.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone was pretty much stunned when New Line announced Peter Jackson would not be involved in the making of “The Hobbit.” After all, he pretty much was the Lord of the Rings.
Well I’ve got a double dose of good news, folks. After finally settling their stupid little squabble over money, they’ve made buddy buddy!
Peter Jackson will be producing not one film, but a two-part series of “The Hobbit”!
Hooray!
No word yet on who’s directing, but Jacksons’ wife / partner will be executive producing, like she did on the LOTR flicks.

With Christmas just around the corner I’m reminded of a gift my mother bought for me two years ago this week. It was a subscription to Netflix, and my home entertainment viewing was transformed forever. Until then I had to rummage through what was available at my local video & DVD rental facilities. The empowerment Netflix gives you is remarkable; renting movies was a labor of love that suddenly became as easy as click, then deliver.
